The Golden Shield Ranch is a livestock farm in Santasi, Kumasi, owned by Abraham Boakye. We raise goats and sheep, and we sell what we raise directly to households, traders, butchers and caterers.
Water for the animals runs on solar power, and the animals are kept in raised housing with slatted floors. We sell live animals, breeding stock for farmers who are starting or growing a herd, and manure from beneath the housing for farms and gardens.
How we farm
Simple practices, applied consistently.
- Solar-powered water. The animals’ water supply runs on solar power.
- Raised, slatted-floor housing. Animals are kept off the ground, and manure is collected from beneath the floors.
- Small ruminants only. Goats and sheep are what we raise and sell.
- Local employment. Six women from the area work on the ranch.
